Hi,
I'm Marissa.

Educator • Instructional Designer • Lifelong Nerd

I’m an educator and instructional designer who loves helping people make sense of complex ideas. For the past 14 years, I’ve worked in education, developing curriculum, teaching science, and designing learning experiences that help learners connect ideas to the real world.

Right now, I’m finishing my Master’s in Learning Design and Technology at Purdue University while working on instructional design projects that focus on building clear, engaging learning experiences. I’m especially interested in designing instruction that helps learners apply what they learn to real situations.

We recently moved back to Killeen, Texas, after living in Savannah, Georgia, and we miss it more than we expected. Savannah is such a beautiful city with great food and even more amazing people! It was a really special place for our family to call home for a few years, we can't wait to go back and visit.

At home I’m usually juggling grad school with life in a house full of boys. My husband and two sons keep things lively, our goldendoodle Boogie thinks he’s a lap dog despite weighing 126 pounds, and our 15-year-old cat Gelato doesn't seem very impressed as observes the chaos from a safe distance.

My curiosity about how the world works started early. One of my favorite childhood experiments involved my dad and me buying twenty cans of beans so we could test which type of string made the best can-phone radio. After the experiment we dumped all the beans down the garbage disposal. My mom didn’t discover the aftermath until she turned it on and beans shot back up out of the sink. I'm not sure if she's forgiven us yet.

That curiosity still drives the way I design learning today. I love exploring complex topics, asking questions, and building learning experiences that help others make sense of new ideas.

If you’re interested in thoughtful learning design, meaningful education, or building something new, you’re in the right place.

One small design detail you’ll notice throughout this site is the floral artwork woven into the pages. The colorful patterns are inspired by Mexican folk art, a small nod to my heritage and the vibrant creativity that has always been part of my family.

Let’s Connect!

Good ideas rarely happen alone.

If you are working on a learning experience, curriculum project, or instructional design challenge and want a thought partner, I would love to hear about it. I enjoy connecting with educators, designers, and organizations who care about creating meaningful learning experiences.

Let’s build something meaningful together.

Have a project in mind? I’m always happy to talk about learning design and new ideas.
